We have all heard that bats carry many infections and communicable diseases. From the hints, it is thought that Covid-19 came from bats.
But how big can bats grow?
A photo shared on Facebook has shocked the network, as it shows a human-sized bat with a wingspan of up to 1.7 meters.
The photo was taken in the Philippines and above it, the author of the photo writes:
“The giant fox bat can be found in the Philippines and has a wingspan of up to 1.7 meters. Despite their Hulk size, these bats are vegetarians and mostly consume fruit.”
But what do the studies say about this bat?
The fox-bat is a rare species and contains very long wings. In fact, they are so long that they are often seen wrapped around them like a cloak. Their wings can reach up to five meters wide when fully opened
It is considered to be the largest bat in the world and their face is similar to that of a fox, but they are usually black. However, DNA profiling shows that this species of bat is not related to the fox. They do not have a tail which is typical of foxes.
In the Philippines, almost all “flying foxes” are almost on the verge of extinction, due to the destruction of their habitat, but also due to hunting for consumption.
Various associations for the protection of animals say that these species are not dangerous and do not attack, but the only disturbing thing is the noise they make.
