Survivor Amanda Sue Jones Shares Disturbing Experience
Amanda Sue Jones, who managed to escape the Texas flood with her family on July 4, shared a chilling account of the rapid developments during the disaster in an interview with CNN. She recalled how quickly the floodwaters rose, saying, “It happened in a matter of minutes, from a quiet night with everyone asleep to lights flickering on in cabins as the campers were swept away.”
“It was just immeasurably fast,” she recounted. Initially, everything seemed calm; there was no sign of urgency. But suddenly, it was like a wall of water came crashing through against the bridge.”
Jones elaborated on their location, stating, “We were camping about 20 yards from a fork in the tributary of the river. We were closely monitoring it since it was well within its banks throughout the night. It began to rise but remained contained until it spilled out onto the grass, at which point we knew we had to leave.”
