Mom called out for breastfeeding 6-year-old while drinking

Breastfeeding – I’m sure you’ll agree – is a perfectly natural act undertaken by a loving mother to feed her hungry babies. It’s quite literally a marvel of biology, turning moms into a food machine to ensure the survival of her hungry children.

And yet – I’m sure you’ll also agree – there comes a time and age where breastfeeding is not only no longer needed, but becomes inappropriate. Now, before we go any further, I’ll stress that for the most part, mothers and fathers should always have the final say on things relating to their kids.

But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t cases wherein they’d be better off listening to the general consensus and maybe not wandering too far from the path best tread.

One mother from Perth, Australia caused a stir earlier this year after revealing that she breastfed her son all the way up until he was six years old, while she continues to nurse her daughter, 4.

Lauren McLeod, 31, is mother to seven-year-old Bowie and four-year-old Tigerlily, and her approach to breastfeeding her children is certainly unconventional.

Yet Lauren is not only prepared to champion her decision, but she’s also ready to take the fight to the naysayers who believe she should stop.

As per the New York Post, Lauren said she hadn’t planned on breastfeeding for so long when she first began. “I’m just like any other mom doing the best for my children,” she explained.

Earlier this year, meanwhile, the mom claimed to have had a “‘bye bye boobie” party for Bowie when he was six.

“I wanted one last feed with him and made a cake saying ‘bye bye boobies’. It was the end of an era, and it was very emotional, but we both knew it was time. I wouldn’t be surprised if Tigerlily also went on until she was six like her brother, but I will follow her lead,” Lauren said.

In 2023, meanwhile, she hit back at those criticizing her for drinking while actively breastfeeding. As per the New York Post, the mom-of-two, who has gained a steady following online, said: “I think there is definitely misinformation about drinking while breastfeeding.”

“Many people probably assume that alcohol goes straight into breastmilk and will make the baby ‘drunk’.

“Or they assume that a breastfeeding parent is going to get blind drunk and harm their child, which usually is absolutely not the case.

“I have definitely seen quite a few comments in parent-related groups on Facebook saying negative things about drinking while breastfeeding, which all have quite clearly come from a lack of education.”
