“August watched the Netflix special and he laughed,” a source told The Post. “He thought it was not only funny but also true. That was the best part about it.” On Saturday, Rock finally went public with his thoughts on Will Smith’s bash at the 2022 Oscars with Selective Outrage, his Netflix comedy.
In it, Rock speculated that Smith hit him not only because of his joke about Pinkett Smith but because Smith was venting his anger about her relationship with Alsina. “Everybody in the world called him a whore,” the actor said of Will. “All. All. And who did he hit? Me. The source suggested that, in Alsina’s eyes, Rock was right. “A lot of people spoke out against [Alsina],” the source said. “So he was happy to see that Chris Rock seemed to be standing up for the truth and not just kidding.”

Page Six previously reported that the artist and actress met in 2015 at the Wire Festival in London, where the Smiths’ children, Willow and Jaden, were performing. The singer quickly became a family friend, and the next year he vacationed in Hawaii with the couple and their children. But the rumors started swirling when Alsina and Pinkett Smith were photographed loving it at the 2017 BET Awards.
“People were speculating,” the source said. “And [Will and Jada] have a very unique understanding. August excused himself when he said he had talked to Will. It was a blessing given.”
“You all know what happened to me, getting smacked by Shug Smith, everybody knows, everybody (expletive) knows,” Rock said. “I got smacked like a year ago… People are like ‘Did it hurt?’ It still hurts. I got ‘Summertime’ ringing in my ears. But I’m not a victim, baby. You’ll never see me on Oprah or Gayle crying. … I took that hit like (Manny) Pacquiao.”
“Will is embarrassed and hurt by what Chris said about him and his family in his Netflix special,” a source told ET. “He didn’t watch it, but he had people tell him what Chris said. It’s everywhere when you look online and on social media, so Will and Jada have seen comments about it.”
The report also indicates Smith is “upset” that Netflix gave Rock “this platform” to express his views.
“Will is also upset that Netflix was a part of this and thinks Chris insulting Jada again is below the belt,” the source added. “He is upset that Netflix gave Chris this platform to share these messages and thinks it’s distasteful.”
