Tina Turner told Cher and Oprah Winfrey she was ‘ready to die’ before she passed away aged 83 on May 24.
“She fought this disease for such a long time and she was as strong as you would think she should be,” the 77-year-old singer said Thursday when she appeared on MSNBC’s “The Beat with Ari Melber.” “He told me once: ‘I’m really ready. I just don’t want to take this anymore.”
Winfrey, another close friend of Turner’s — mentioned something similar in a separate interview.
“Of course, I was aware that she was ill, but I had seen her in 2019 and I went to visit her in the hospital and she had told me then that she was actually ready to go, meaning, ready to leave from the planet. I expected that then would be the last time I would see him,” said Winfrey on “CBS Mornings”.
Turner died after battling a “long illness,” her family announced Wednesday. A day later, her representative revealed that the legendary musician died of natural causes.
Although Cher didn’t reveal what exactly Turner was suffering from, she did admit to having a dialysis machine at her home in Switzerland. Dialysis is a treatment used for those in the late stages of kidney disease. Turner opened up about her health issues in an Instagram post on March 9 in honor of International Kidney Day.
