MissingDog

A Jacksonville family is facing every pet owner’s nightmare after their dog vanished following a traffic accident on Interstate 95 in South Carolina.

The family was heading south on December 27 when their vehicle was involved in a crash in Clarendon County. As a precaution, they were taken to the hospital for medical checks. Their two dogs were transported safely to an animal shelter in Manning — but shortly after arriving, things took a heartbreaking turn.

Their older dog, Ari, a 7-year-old, became overwhelmed and frightened in the unfamiliar environment and ran off from the shelter. He was last spotted in the area nearby. Known for his gentle nature, Ari is believed to be extremely scared after the trauma of the accident and sudden separation from his family.

While the family has since been reunited with their other dog, Ari remains missing.
“Our home doesn’t feel whole without him,” they shared. “He’s been our baby for seven years. We’re scared and holding on to hope that he’ll come back to us.”

Authorities and shelter staff launched an immediate search effort, using drones, placing humane traps, and even leaving behind items of the family’s clothing to help Ari recognize familiar scents. Although the family has returned to Florida to recover from their injuries, the search continues in South Carolina.

The family also made a point to publicly support the shelter staff, emphasizing that they have shown compassion, dedication, and constant effort since Ari disappeared.

Anyone who may have seen Ari or has information about his whereabouts is encouraged to contact local law enforcement or A Second Chance Animal Shelter. His family continues to pray for a miracle and for Ari’s safe return.
