Her decision to leave was announced earlier in August. Leavitt said she wanted to devote more time to her family after the birth of her second child, explaining that the constant demands of the position made it difficult to be the mother she wanted to be. Trump praised her work and said she would continue as an outside adviser and influential voice in Republican politics.
Now, attention has shifted to the question of who will replace her.
No permanent successor had been selected when Leavitt left, and White House officials were expected to share briefing duties in the meantime. Conservative commentator Scott Jennings has emerged as one of the names being discussed for the position, although no final decision has been announced.
For Leavitt, however, her final message was less about predicting who would take her place and more about describing the reality of working for Trump.
